Takradhara is a form of Shirodhara, an Ayurvedic treatment method which involves continuous flow of medicated butter milk to the centre of forehead. The patient is made to lie down in the wooden basin (Taila-Droni), after anointing his/her head and body with suitable medicated oils .The head should rest in a slightly elevated position, preferably on a pillow. Two therapists are needed for this treatment. One attendant controls the movement of Dharapatra (vessel containing the medicine) and the flow of medicated drug. The other one collects the oil that falls from patient's head. Buttermilk is processed with Amalaki (gooseberry), Mustha (Cyperus rotundus,) etc., decoctions and used for the purpose.
